Grands as Parents, MLK Day of Service

image231

On the day of service, I spent time with Grands As Parents Inc.  As soon as the doors opened at 10:30 am., the wonderful volunteers began serving people in the community, that came in for a hot meal and clothing with love and kindness.

Grands As Parents, Inc., in conjunction with Ventures, and the City of Philadelphia will tentatively open Susquehanna Square in October 2020. This project will provide one, two, and three bedroom units to grandparents and caregivers who are raising their grandchildren and other adolescents.

MLK Day of Service at Freed Theatre

The atmosphere in the Freed Theatre was absolutely electric. There was excitement in the air as the youth waited patiently anticipating the readings of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King's speeches.

This was one of many activities planned around the King holiday, by the Freed Theatre, the gracious Mr. Butch Slaughter along with Ms. Pauline Thompson and alarge crew of volunteers. Retired Educator, Ms. Twyla Simpson proudly showed off dresses and shirts made from discarded pillowcases.

Judging from the crowd size the event was quite successful.
